Background:

Lumphinnans Primary Community School is situated in the former mining village of Lumphinnans. The building has existed as a primary school since 1892 and since 1990, as a primary community school, serving a wide range of groups from the Lumphinnans, Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly areas. The school has an active after-school club, in addition to study support and homework clubs, youth clubs and adult orientated classes. A senior citizen's lunch club is held twice a week on the premises. Pupils regularly participate in fund-raising activities for charities in addition to holding coffee mornings and awareness raising days for Macmillan. The school has good links with the local community and participates in local initiatives which tie in with the curriculum. Awards and recognition have been received for pupil?s contributions to healthy eating promotions, caring for others, environmental work and most recently, Active Citizenship - Fife in 2010. The school has a successful football team coached by a volunteer who is also a youth worker at the school. The school aims to offer a happy, safe and secure environment in a family atmosphere.
